P7 Transition Dates (Article 29 Goals of education)

We trust you received the letter about the dates of future transition visits. Please note on Thursday 27th April pupils will need to bring a packed lunch which they will eat at the high school.

Newsletter 18th April

Welcome Mrs Botha
A very warm welcome to Mrs Botha who is covering Mrs Marshall’s maternity leave in P1/2. Welcome also to new pupils Toby and Hugo.

BCYT Easter Plays
Thanks to everyone who came to the church for the P6/7 performance of the Easter plays. We were very proud of the children who performed really well. Thanks too to BCYT who worked with the children.

Olympic Athlete
Thanks to the children for participating in the activities with the Olympic Athlete Louise Renwick who visited the school before the holidays. Thanks also to everyone who sent in sponsor money for the event.

 P3/4/5 Trip to life Centre
On Wednesday 26th April P3/4/5 pupils will be visiting the Life Centre in Newcastle. Bus times are 8.50am pick up and 4.15pm drop off. You must make arrangements to collect your child if they use the school bus. Ev2 forms will be sent home with pupils today, please order a grab and go on this only if your child is in P3 or in receipt of free school meals. Pupils in P4 and P5 must bring a packed lunch. Packed lunches cannot be made on the day of the trip therefor this is important!

P3/4/5/6/7 Rugby
We are delighted to welcome rugby development officer Robert Greig back into school this term. Bert will be working with P3/4/5 and P6/7 on a short rugby block during P.E lessons.

Fruity Thursday
We need helpers for Fruity Thursday tuck shop – this involves helping 4 children wash, peel, chop and prepare fresh fruit cups to sell for tuck shop. All in it takes an hour, from 10-11 on alternative Thursdays. Please let Mrs Crowe know if you are able to help.

Priory Live
On Tuesday 6th June our pupils in P6 are invited to experience a life in medieval monasteries at the parish church in Coldingham, further details to follow.

Kingswood Meeting
Mrs Horsburgh and Mr Fryer will be holding a meeting for P7 parents/carers and pupils regarding Kingswood on Wednesday 3rd May at 6pm at Ayton Primary School.  We will share information and hand out packs as we did last year.

Reston Nursery Raffle
The nursery at Reston are holding a raffle on 21st April and 1st prize is a stunning handmade sampler quilt, other prizes available too. Raffle tickets are now available to purchase in Ayton school office and priced at £1.00 each. The quilt will be exhibited on Friday 31st March in Reston Village Hall during the monthly coffee morning and tickets will also be available to purchase on the day.  During the Easter holidays the Reston Village Shop will also be displaying the quilt and selling raffle tickets. All funds raised will go to support the development of outdoor learning and play areas for the nursery and younger children of Reston school. If you would like to buy any raffle tickets please contact Mrs Crowe in the office. Thank you

Dance Festival
Well done to P3/4/5 and also the Scottish Country Dancers, who done us proud at the dance festival, thanks to Miss Bridgewater for helping to organise the festival and prepare the children so well for their dance performances.

Thursday 6th April

Green Fingers: 10.30am–12.00 for children 4-8 yrs. Sparking your children’s interest in the environment, an introduction for you and your budding gardener, learning through play with hands on activities. Sunflower painting and planting, design and paint your companion rock, grow your own pumpkin!

Spaces are limited to 12—Booking Required- Please wear old clothes as you may get messy.

Stay and play: 13.30-15.00 for children 0-5 years. Come for a story and help your child with a fun activity. Followed by tea, coffee and a chat. No need to book .

Newsletter 20th March

P1/2 Teacher

Mrs Natalie Botha has been recommended for the post of P1/2 class teacher, subject to checks and paperwork. Mrs Botha will be in school over the next few weeks, meeting the children and working with Mrs Marshall.

National Entitlement Card

All P7’s have been issued with a letter and application form for their NEC card – essential for cashless catering in the high school and can also be used for travel concessions, as a library card, for discounts and as proof of age. Please return application form completed to the office as soon as possible.

Red Nose Day

Pupils can bring in their red noses and wear them on Friday 24th March.

Water Bottles (Article 3 Best interests of the child)

Please ensure your child brings a named water bottle to school every day. We are trying to discourage children from using cups at the water fountain as there is a risk of spreading infections. Thank you

Athletic Sponsored Event (Article 31 Leisure, play & culture)

Visit from Olympic and Scottish Commonwealth Judo athlete Louise Renicks on Tuesday 28th March, 9am at Ayton for the sponsored circuit activities. All sponsor money/donations should be returned to school no later than Monday 27th March to be collected by Louise Renicks.
60% of what we raise goes towards our schools and 40% back to ‘Sports for Champions UK’ to help athletes with training costs and travel. On the day the children will take part in circuit activities and take part in an assembly. Thank you

Mile a Day/Activity Time (Article 3 Best interests of the child)

As part of our health and wellbeing curriculum we will be ensuring the children take part in 10-15 minutes extra activity each day there is no PE.

Church Service

The Easter church service will be held on Thursday 30th March at 2pm in Ayton Parish Church, all parents/carers/friends and family welcome.

Your child’s class is involved in an exciting project designing posters to welcome Education Ministers from around the world to The International Summit on the Teaching Profession next week in Edinburgh.
